This page is to provide links for various Tecmo Super Bowl rom editing programs. A breif description and link to download each program is given. All rom editing tools are Windows based programs, so they will not run on OS' such as Mac or Linux. BE SURE to make regular backups of you're TSB roms you're modifying, just in case something goes wrong. Also be sure the tecmo rom you are modifying doesn't have the "Read-Only" file attribute turned on, otherwise you will get error's when trying to save you're modified tecmo rom. If you are having troubles editing TSB, be sure to checkout the TSB Editing Related FAQ section of this Wiki to see if a solution exists for you're given problem.

TSB Rom Editing Tools

Below are a collection of programs made specifically for editing TSB or other various aspects of a Tecmo Super Bowl rom. Listed is a brief description of the program and a link to download the given program. All TSB rom editing tools are free and are all Windows-based.

Tecmo Super Bowl Manager (TSBm) v1.3

This is probably the best Tecmo Super Bowl editing tool available. It allows you to modify the following in a TSB rom.

  • Team Names & Abbreviations
  • Team Playbooks
  • Team Formations
  • Team Uniform Colors
  • Player Names, Jersey Numbers, Attributes & Photos
  • Team Kick & Punt Returners
  • Team Championship screen Uniform colors
  • Pro Bowl Rosters
  • Schedule Editing
  • League & Year text editing

NOTE: Be sure to download the required system files below, BEFORE you try to run TSBm otherwise you will get an error.

Tecmo Super Bowl Simulation Editor v1.0

This program is used to modify the way Tecmo Super Bowl simulates the Players & Teams when a game is not played (also called simulation). Using this program you can modify how each player performs and how each team performs when their game is skipped.

NOTE: Be sure to download the required system files below, BEFORE you try to run TSBm otherwise you will get an error.

TSBm System Files

These are just a set of Windows system files needed to run both TSBm and the Simulator Editor. They are required and without them, those programs will not run and you'll just get an error.

Tecmo Super Bowl Manager 2000 (TSBm2000) v0.70

TSBm2000 v0.71 Upgrade

This program is meant to allow you to modify every single TSB in existance, including the NES version of TSB. What it allows you to do is create a .tsb file which contains all you're teams and players and everything you want to modify, then you export you're modified stuff into you're TSB rom. The following is a list of everything that you can edit using TSBm2000.

  • Team Names & Abbreviations
  • Player Photos, Attributes, Names & Jersey Numbers
  • Tecmo Title Screen Credits and Season Year

Tecmo Endzone Editor (TEE)

This program allows you to modify the color and text that is displayed for both field endzones in you're TSB rom. Not much more to it than that.

TSB Helmet Editor v0.10

This program is nice. It allows you to change the look of the large helmets (including logo's) within a tecmo super bowl rom which allows you to do it quick and easily and gives you a privew of you're work before it is saved.

TSB Playbook Editor Beta3 (tsbPBE)

This program allows you to modify pretty much everything dealing with the plays within a TSB rom. You can create new routes, new formations, alter play-action sequences and more.

Tecmo Super Bowl Tool (TSBTool)

TSBTool reads human readable text and applies this data to a Tecmo Super Bowl ROM.
You can modify TSBTool data in spreadsheet programs (data is in csv format) and plain text editors.
This tool was created to enable a whole lot of data change in TSB in a short amount of time.
TSBTool can modify the following within a TSB rom:

  • Team & Player Simulation Data
  • Player Names, Jersey Numbers, Faces & Attributes
  • Year
  • Schedule
  • Team Run-Pass Ratio
  • Team Kick & Punt Returners

NOTE: This program requires you to have the Microsoft.NET framework 1.1 installed in order to work properly.

Miscellaneous Rom Editing Tools

Hex Editors

These are programs which allow you to edit the memory of the TSB rom. They allow you to edit the actual hex addresses and bytes used for speific settings from within TSB (and are used primarily for some text modification). Alot of editing TSB is done using a hex editor so obtaining and using one is vital for TSB rom modification. Below is a list of recommended Hex Editor's.

Hex Workshop - Commercial Software, Cost: $49.95

Translhextion - Freeware

Graphic Editors

Some graphics in TSB cannot be modified using a TSB editor. In this case you need a program that can load the TSB rom and allow you to modify the graphic tiles that make up the graphics within TSB. Be warned though, it is not as easy as it sounds (for some people anyway) Below is a couple recommended programs for graphics modification.

Tile Layer Pro - Freeware

Nesticle - A DOS-Based NES emulator but has on-the-fly grahic modification capabilities.

Debuggers

These are programs that allow you to load a rom and view the memory of the game while the rom is running. This allows you to find which hex addresses are used for a given feature in TSB (such as the game clock) You can then modify the addresses on-the-fly and see what happens or to test a specific hex address you found for something in TSB. There really is only one solid program for this stuff and that is listed below.

FCE UltraXD - A Windows-based NES emulator with debugging and hex editing capabilities.
